- Film star honored with lifetime achievement award
In recent months, American actor and director Kevin Costner (69, "The Bodyguard") hasn't had much to smile about. First, his wife Christine Baumgartner (50) filed for divorce in May 2023 after nearly 20 years of marriage. Then he had to endure a lengthy custody battle with his ex, and to top it off, his pet project "Horizon" bombed at the US box office. But now, he has something to celebrate.
Lifetime Achievement Award
On July 31, Costner received some welcome news at the Magna Graecia Film Festival in Catanzaro, Italy. As reported by the "Daily Mail", he was honored with the Colonna D'Oro ("Golden Column") for his lifetime achievement. The festival also screened the first part of "Horizon", and the Hollywood star participated in a discussion about the film.
"Horizon - An American Saga" Flops at the Box Office
In June 2024, Costner's cinematic passion project "Horizon - An American Saga" tanked upon its US release. In the wake of the failure, the second part of the planned four-episode Western epic was initially removed from the cinema schedule. However, it was recently announced that part two will have its premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival on September 7, but it won't be in competition. Part one will also be shown on the same day.
After receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Magna Graecia Film Festival, Kevin Costner expressed his gratitude at the event, mentioning how the recognition helped lift his spirits during a challenging period. Amidst the flop of "Horizon - An American Saga" at the US box office, festival organizers saw an opportunity to showcase the second part of the film at the 81st Venice Film Festival, providing Costner with a new platform to promote his work.
