- Film Festival in Zurich honors her for her life's work
The Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall, and it has a special treat in store: Hollywood star Kate Winslet (48) will be attending the festival in Switzerland's mini-metropolis. The festival organizers have announced that Winslet will be honored with the "Golden Icon Award" and will present her new film "The Photographer" (English title: "Lee") at the event. Antony Penrose, son of the war photographer Lee Miller (1907-1977), whose life story the film tells, will also be present.
The "Golden Icon Award" is a lifetime achievement award that was first given to Sylvester Stallone (78) in 2008. Other recipients include Morgan Freeman (87), Richard Gere (74), Hugh Jackman (55), Hugh Grant (63), Glenn Close (77), Cate Blanchett (55), and Jessica Chastain (47), among many others.
Now, it's Kate Winslet's turn. The ZFF describes her as "one of the most important actresses of our time and the leading lady in some of the most successful films in history." She is a "true icon of cinema, shining in both big studio blockbusters and small indie productions."
Winslet began her acting career as a teenager, and in 1994, she had her first role in a feature film, "Heavenly Creatures." It wasn't long before she became one of the most famous and successful actresses of her generation. At the age of 21, she was nominated for her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for "Sense and Sensibility." Her role in "Titanic" launched her to stardom and earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. In total, she has been nominated for seven Oscars, winning for Best Actress for "The Reader" in 2009. Some of her other notable films include "Iris," "Love Actually," "Labor Day," "Steve Jobs," and "Avatar: The Way of Water."
During her visit, Kate Winslet will not only receive the "Golden Icon Award" but also screen her latest film "The Photographer" at the Zurich Film Festival. Despite being in the limelight since her teenage years, Winslet's impressive acting career continues to shine, with notable roles in films like "Titanic," "Iris," and "Avatar: The Way of Water."
