Fassbender explains acting break with obsession

In a movie, actor Michael Fassbender once played a man completely obsessed with sex. Now the Hollywood star explains what private obsession took such a hold of him in real life that he took a break from acting for several years.

Netflix subscribers can currently experience Hollywood star Michael Fassbender in David Fincher's latest film "The Killer". Before his current appearance as the nameless contract killer, however, the 46-year-old had not been seen in film productions for quite some time. The actor has now explained his break from acting with an "obsession". However, he did not mention a sex addiction, which was the subject of the film "Shame", in which he had the leading role in 2011. Fassbender's "obsession" is with motor racing.

As a guest on the British "Graham Norton Show", the Hollywood actor described his enthusiasm for car racing. "It's an obsession and it feels so right," said Fassbender according to the Daily Mail. For him, racing is "not just about the speed, it's about getting to a point where you don't think about anything else."

Crash went off without a hitch

"I'm totally hooked and want to go back and race at Le Mans again - that was extraordinary," he told British TV. Fassbender took part in both this year's and last year's legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2022, he and his team finished in 51st place. This year, he crashed and did not finish the race, but fortunately remained uninjured in the accident.

Fassbender last appeared in a Hollywood production in 2019. In "X-Men: Dark Phoenix", he once again played the character Magneto. The film was a financial disappointment. In addition to his acting return in "The Killer", Fassbender will also be seen in the comedy "Next Goal Wins" by Oscar winner Taika Waititi at the beginning of next year. The film about one of the worst soccer teams in the world will be released in cinemas in Germany on January 4, 2024, just in time for the new year.
