Madonna - Fans annoyed - pop star is late again

Madonna (65) put her fans to a tough test of patience on her current "Celebration" tour in New York. The Queen of Pop only took to the stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday evening two and a half hours after the announced start of the concert.

Fans had been waiting four months for this concert: Due to the bacterial infection that forced Madonna into intensive care in June, the dates had been postponed.

The concert was originally scheduled to begin at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, but Madonna did not appear until 11:00 pm. On X, formerly Twitter, an angry fan wrote , according to "Page Six": "I don't give a shit that you're Madonna. If you're three hours late, you're just fucking rude." Another tweet reads: "What Madonna does to her fans is atrocious."

One concert guest even reported that everyone around him had left after two hours: "The unpleasant feeling is clear and in the air ... Two hours now and no sign of her. We all love Madonna, but..." Another tweet complains that the start time listed on the tickets is incorrect. "No one cares about a DJ playing house music for hours and wasting fans' time!"

Madonna's lateness is a tradition

However, it is not unusual for Madonna to keep her fans waiting: the singer also started her concert at the sold-out Lanxess Arena in Cologne an hour and a half late in November. In 2020, when Madonna was on the road with her "Madame X" tour, she even kept fans in Paris waiting for three and a half hours. Likewise in 2016: she started three concerts on her "Rebel Heart" tour in the same week hours late.

Madonna and her team often cite technical difficulties as an explanation. A source told "Page Six" that Madonna also had some problems during the sound check this time, but that they "only" caused an hour's delay.

Surprise: Julia Garner as Madonna double on stage

However, Madonna was able to reconcile the fans with her show, as further tweets show. "Yes, she was late, but she put on a killer show," was the verdict of one follower.

A special Madonna double provided a highlight of the concert in New York, as can be seen in numerous videos on social media: actress Julia Garner (29), who is to play the role of the pop star in an upcoming biopic, acted as a judge together with Madonna during a Vogue performance by the dancers.
