A plethora of friends, peers, and fans have poured out emotional messages on social media, mourning the demise of Donald Sutherland, who contributed to over 150 films and TV productions. He passed away on a Thursday, after battling illness for an extended period.

His son, popular actor Kiefer Sutherland, shared poignant words on Instagram about his father's passing: "Deeply pained to announce that my old man, Donald Sutherland, has ceased to exist at 88. In my book, he's one of the greatest actors in cinema history. No matter the role, he never backed down, whether it was admirable, reprehensible, or grotesque. He did what he loved, and that's all life asks for. A fulfilling existence."

Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda, who collaborated with Sutherland on the thriller "Klute" (1971), posted emotional sentiments on Instagram: "Shattered heart. Donald was a gifted performer and complex man."

Michael Douglas wrote on his personal Instagram account, "What a thoughtful, gifted, and inquisitive individual. May you rest in peace."

Not just in Hollywood, but condolences are streaming in from various quarters. US President Joe Biden honored Sutherland as a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and actor, stating he was "one of a kind." He continued, "He captivated the world for decades with his performances. My thoughts are with his family and all who loved him."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also extended his condolences, calling Sutherland "one of the greats" and a "legendary actor - and a prominent Canadian." Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also commented, "Farewell, Donald Sutherland - the crème de la crème of all the Donalds."

Henry Winkler conveyed his sympathies to Kiefer Sutherland via social media, stating, "Your father was unparalleled."

Nancy Sinatra, daughter of Frank Sinatra, also tweeted her condolences, lamenting, "This hurts!"
