Faeser declares enhanced police presence during European Championships.
Ministry of Interior's Nancy Faeser announced a heavy police presence in Germany during the European Football Championship this summer. She stated that they're prepared with a high dedication from all security forces to ensure safety against potential dangers. The police will be present at all stadiums and areas with large crowds. Speaking on their readiness, Faeser mentioned that they're "very vigilant and well prepared".
An estimated 3 million fans from across Europe are expected to attend the event, which goes on for about four weeks from mid-June. The security measures are correspondingly stringent, with the federal police planning to deploy "necessary forces" for the event. Also, over 300 police officers from the participating European countries will join in supporting the German police.
The German authorities are concerned about multiple types of threats. According to a ministry spokesperson, these threats range from "primarily" petty crime like pickpocketing to violent crime, cyber-attacks, and extremist/terrorist attacks. "We're carefully considering a wide range of potential threats, from Islamist terror to hooligans and other violent criminals to cyber attacks," explained Minister Faeser.
Minister Faeser acknowledged specific challenges in securing the Ukrainian delegation, who will play matches in Munich, Düsseldorf, and Stuttgart during the initial round. She didn't disclose any specific protective measures but stated that "appropriate consideration" will be given to these challenges.
In March, Faeser had revealed that temporary border controls would be reintroduced at all German borders for the duration of the European Championships. Additionally, close security cooperation with France has been arranged. French police officers will be stationed in Germany during the European Football Championship, and German police officers will offer assistance during the Olympics in Paris later in the summer.

Civil servants from various departments are working closely with Minister Faeser to implement the extensive security measures for the European Championships. The enhanced EM (European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction) coordination will also contribute to ensuring a safe event for civil servants and attendees alike.
