Actor Tyrese Gibson apprehended due to unpaid child support obligations. - Experienced extreme distress upon being apprehended.
Tyrese Gibson, 45, addressed the news swirling around his recent detention. On September 9, Gibson was taken into custody during a child support hearing with his ex-wife Samantha Lee. The alleged justification for his temporary imprisonment was his reported failure to meet his child support obligations for their five-year-old daughter. Writing on his Instagram story next day, Gibson mentioned, "Being arrested wasn't a joke, it was really intense."
He shared a segment from the radio show "The Breakfast Club" where he speaks about his devotion to Jesus. The text also stated, "One might ponder why Judge Kevin M. Farmer seems to have such animosity towards me?" Gibson also included a link, titled "The Judge's Nightmare."
Exposure of 20-Page Appeal
Beyond the link, there was Gibson's 20-page appeal against the court's judgment. In it, he asserted that he had voluntarily funded his daughter Soraya since her birth and throughout the divorce, without a court order compelling him to do so. Gibson had paid the highest mandated child support amount, which he considered sufficient.
In Gibson's view, the judge's current demand for retroactive payments from him sets a negative precedent for ex-partners who voluntarily support their children. Gibson perceives this demand as a "penalty" and views it as a sneaky form of post-marital maintenance.
Arrest for Contempt of Court
Based on "TMZ" reports, Tyrese Gibson was apprehended in court for failing to remit the $10,000 (approximately €9,000) monthly child support payment to his ex-wife as ordered. Instead, he was transferring $2,200 (approximately €1,900) each month, which was substantially less than the demanded amount. As per the celebrity gossip website, the judge stated that Gibson could avoid incarceration by paying $73,000 (approximately €66,000), which included $7,500 (approximately €6,800) for Samantha Lee's legal fees.
Gibson, who has also excelled as an R&B singer, tied the knot with Lee in 2017, and their daughter was born the following year. The couple announced their separation in 2020, and they have been embroiled in court battles over child support payments ever since. Gibson also shares a 17-year-old daughter with his first spouse.
Tyrese Gibson argued in his 20-page appeal that he had been voluntarily funding his daughter's needs since her birth, and the current demand for retroactive payments was unjust and set a negative precedent. Despite these circumstances, Tyrese Gibson was subsequently arrested for contempt of court due to his failure to meet the $10,000 monthly child support payment as ordered.
