Expectations of companies in Germany for exports rose in May.
German exporters have felt a surge in optimism. The Ifo Institute in Munich reported an increase of plus 0.3 points in May compared to the -1.5 points recorded in April. This means that positive and negative responses were almost on par last month, the researchers noted. In April, the value had slightly fallen. The researchers added, "the export industry is not exhibiting any remarkable dynamism."
In May, beverage manufacturers, furniture makers, and glass and ceramics manufacturers predicted a noteworthy increase in their exports. A slight dampener was detected in data processing device manufacturers, while there was minimal change in the automotive industry, which had previously reported a decline.
Right now, the textile and clothing industry, printers, and metal industry are forecasting a decrease in their exports, as indicated by the Ifo Institute.
