- Ex-girlfriend stabbed to death: 18-year-old faces 11 years in prison

After an 18-year-old killed his ex-girlfriend, also 18, at their shared school near Heidelberg, the Heidelberg Regional Court ruled that he should spend 11 years in prison. The chamber convicted the young man of murder and bodily harm, as a spokesperson announced. The public was excluded from the trial.

The 18-year-old had admitted to the killing of his ex-girlfriend in earlier statements, according to the spokesperson. The Youth Chamber found it proven that the defendant stabbed the 18-year-old student to death at their shared school in St. Leon-Rot, near Heidelberg, on January 25. He stabbed her multiple times, including in the neck and chest, and she died at the scene, in a common room.

The young man then fled, according to the prosecution, causing a serious accident in Lower Saxony's Seesen. Both the perpetrator and another man were injured. Since then, the 18-year-old has been in custody. He was also accused of dangerous bodily harm due to the car accident, but the court did not comment on this charge in its statement.

Heidelberg verdict comes earlier than expected

The trial ended sooner than expected. Originally, the court had set trial dates until August 15.

The trial was held in camera because a bodily harm incident from November 2023 was also part of the indictment. At that time, the defendant had allegedly punched the later deceased student, causing significant injury. At that time, he was still 17 years old and therefore a minor.

The verdict cited multiple acts of violence, including the fatal stabbing resulting in bloodshed. Following the court's decision, the 18-year-old is expected to serve 11 years in prison for his crimes.
