Ex-girlfriend: "I too was physically and mentally abused by him"

Last week, a shock went through the Norwegian royal palace walls due to Marius Borg Høiby, the stepson of the crown prince, who was reportedly arrested for bodily and psychological violence against a woman. Now, his ex-girlfriend is speaking out.

Currently, it is believed that the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit is hiding at the estate of Skaugum, the residence of the royal family, approximately 25 kilometers from Oslo. Over the first weekend of August, he was involved in a public altercation with an unknown woman in Oslo.

Media outlets suspect that the unknown woman is his girlfriend, surfer Rebecca Helberg Arntsen, who allegedly became a victim of both psychological and physical abuse, presumably by the 27-year-old Marius Borg Høiby. The injured woman fled the scene and called the police, later seeking medical attention at a hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion.

The royal stepson of Norway was subsequently arrested by the police and spent 30 hours in custody. His lawyer, Øyvind Bratlien, confirmed to the newspaper "VG" that his client is charged with bodily harm.

However, the situation is becoming even more tense at the palace, as an ex-girlfriend of Marius, Juliane Snekkestad, claims that the royal son physically and psychologically abused her. In an Instagram story, she writes: "I received countless calls, messages, and questions about my ex this past week (...)." The 29-year-old further explains: "Family and friends have known about this for a long time, and I've decided to break my silence."

Regarding the numerous messages Snekkestad received about the incident near Oslo, she writes: "To answer everyone's questions: Yes, I was physically and psychologically abused by the person in question. The psychological abuse was the worst for me."

Borg Høiby and Snekkestad were a couple from 2018 to 2022. She gained media attention as a former "Playboy" model who was received at the royal court. Her reason for coming forward with these allegations two years later? She wants no sympathy, only awareness and to empower other women with her testimony: "I feel it's my responsibility to speak out so that more women don't have to endure this."

To this day, she still struggles with the psychological aftermath of the relationship, says the psychology student: "Years later, despite professional help and the support of my wonderful family, my fiancé, and my friends, I will never be the same person I once was."
