The European Union is opening accession negotiations with Ukraine and its neighbor Moldova. This was decided by the heads of state and government in Brussels on Thursday. Georgia now has the status of a candidate country.

Georgia has also been granted candidate status. "The EU will start negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina as soon as the required level of compliance with the accession criteria has been reached", Michel continued. He described the move as "a clear signal of hope for the people there and for our continent".
