Environmentalists call for gathering information on the AfD party.

After a court decision, the AfD can remain under surveillance by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The Greens, on the other hand, want to expand the scope of intelligence gathering. Other actors' knowledge should also be used systematically. The goal is to create a comprehensive database for potential ban proceedings.

The Green leadership proposes that the federal and state governments systematically collect data on the AfD. There are valid constitutional obstacles to a ban process, but it's crucial to carefully examine the assessments of the security authorities and evaluate them regularly. As per a resolution released by the party executive board on Thursday, "a federal and state task force" should be formed within the Conference of Interior Ministers.

In the Green Party's view, this "task force" should "compile and evaluate findings on the anti-constitutional activities of the AfD and its youth organization Junge Alternative from the federal and state governments into a collection of material." In addition to the findings of the constitutional protection authorities, "civil society expertise" should also be included. "All constitutional bodies must, of course, regularly weigh the current assessments of the security authorities and arguments for and against a ban and draw conclusions from these findings," the resolution states.

The renewed debate about banning the AfD stems from a ruling by the Higher Administrative Court in North Rhine-Westphalia in Münster. In this ruling, the court upheld the classification of the AfD as a suspected right-wing extremist organization by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, allowing the office to continue utilizing intelligence services to monitor the party. The AfD has vowed to appeal.

The Green Party Executive Board's resolution titled "With Courage and Determination Against Right-Wing Extremists and the AfD" covers 15 points. In addition to demanding that the police and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution "take action against right-wing extremists with a clear focus," this includes investigating right-wing extremist acts of violence and terrorism more consistently and dismantling right-wing extremist networks.
