Friday evenings are when the build-up to excitement starts: the UEFA European Championship in Germany kicks off with the German team's opening match against Scotland in Munich. Broadcaster Esther Sedlaczek (38) will be reporting from packed stadiums in the days to come, sometimes even with football icon Bastian Schweinsteiger (39) once more. In an interview with news agency spotted news, Sedlaczek shared her thoughts on the EM before the tournament. The anticipation has been there for a while, but the real fever only kicks in when the season with the Bundesliga and Champions League ends, Sedlaczek explains: "By then, my focus is on the European Championship."

The mother of a five-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son also revealed that she's had the sticker collection book for the EM at home for a while. This is a fantastic pastime for the whole family, she says, to pique the interest and enthusiasm of her kids in the EM. Personally, she finds the fact that the tournament is happening in Germany this year, in relation to her family, a significant advantage. "As a double mom, I can almost always sleep in my own bed," she said, which makes things easier. The flip side is that she would like to discover new stadiums, which isn't possible this time around. In general, she's getting ready for the games as usual: "The location of the tournament doesn't play a crucial role."

Esther Sedlaczek recalls her first stadium experience with the German team

Sedlaczek can still vividly remember her first stadium experience with the German team: "It was the legendary match at the 2006 World Cup, Germany against Argentina in the quarter-finals." Back then, she was 20 years old and present at the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Argentina was the firm favorite for the win: "Imagine how I cheered when it went into a penalty shootout and Germany eventually triumphed."

Of course, Sedlaczek is also looking forward to her colleague Schweinsteiger once more, with whom she's shared the screen since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and who has sparked many positive reactions. "We understand each other incredibly well, and we like each other," she says, regarding Schweinsteiger as an entertainer who makes things easy. Her predictions for a triumph at the 2024 European Championship include France and England. She's not convinced about the German team just yet: "Even though I hope that the team will remain in the tournament for as long as possible. And at a home EM, you never know how it will turn out."
