- Embraced the tranquility of maturation in her life.
As some people may view aging with apprehension, Oprah Winfrey (70) sees it with serenity: "It brings a sense of understanding that time is limited. And I've come to terms with that realization," she shared with US host Al Roker (70) during their chat on "Today" show. "It instills a sense of urgency to live life to its fullest."
The influential talk show host joined Roker, who was celebrating his 70th birthday on the program, for a discussion about aging and the insights they've gleaned throughout their lives.
"Time to keep moving"
Following knee surgery in 2021, Winfrey acknowledged her mortality yet recognized she still had years to savor. "I was gradually losing strength to the point where I found it challenging to even descend two steps to enter my car. You know that type of pain," she recounted to Roker, who too, underwent two knee surgeries. "When I consulted with the orthopedist and questioned, 'Is it time?', the doctor answered: 'Time to keep moving. If you enjoy running, then it's time.'"
Reflecting on the experience, she acknowledges: "That was the best decision I ever made. It offered me a fresh chance to inhabit my body in a manner I had been unable to for years due to my weight, which exacerbated my knee issues. At my most obese, I weighed roughly 107 kg."
Oprah Winfrey sums up her thoughts: "I believe I've evolved into a version of myself that is more wise, definitely stronger, more vibrant, and more self-aware than I've ever been."
Aging, like Oprah Winfrey and Al Roker at 70, can challenge one's perceived limitations, but it also prompts a sense of urgency to make the most of the remaining years, as Oprah shared during their chat on "Today" show. Despite undergoing knee surgery in 2021, Winfrey saw it as an opportunity to "keep moving," recognizing she still had years to enjoy.
