Unsolved case with file number XY... - Elderly person dies following severe assault; police searching for young perpetrators.

Around 7:00 PM, unidentified assailants invade the home of an elderly gentleman in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia. This man, who is 80 and has physical disabilities, spends New Year's Eve in front of the TV on his own. As he would later explain to the authorities, he was whacked at least twice in the head with a baseball bat by the two assailants. They then fled through a back window in the apartment. It appears that these assailants had previously infiltrated the apartment. The elderly man had previously suffered two break-ins and had shoved a wardrobe in front of his front door as a protective measure.

The man was left covered in blood and seriously injured. Despite his grievous injuries, he could make a call to a neighbor at 7:20 PM and tell her that he had been beaten up. She found him drenched in blood and alerted the authorities. He sustained head injuries and a skull fracture. Although he suffered significantly, he was still able to inform the police that there were two mysterious teenagers aged between 15 and 17 who had broken into his residence between 6:00 and 7:00 PM. The possible murder weapon was recovered from the scene of the crime.

In an urgent operation, doctors had to remove a part of his skull. After the crime, he could barely comprehend anything and required care in a nursing home. A year later, he passed away due to the aftermath of his injuries.
