Early summer thunderstorms come to an end.

A brief review of the upcoming weather forecast.

It's dusty. There is no rain east of the Elbe.
It's dusty. There is no rain east of the Elbe.

Early summer thunderstorms come to an end.

A shift in the weather pattern is on its way from the west, accompanied by thunderstorms and some of them might be intense. These thunderstorms could bring heavy rainfall, hail, and squalls. It's worth noting whether this drenching sky will reach the areas that need it the most and consequently, the possibility of forest fires is yet unknown.

The massive and powerful systems like "Thomas" and "Uwe" are crumbling down as "Ildiko" and "Juli" emerge as the harbingers of potentially dangerous weather. These weather systems are moving in from the west, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms that could be severe. The potential exists for thunderstorms that could cause heavy rainfall, hail, and squalls. The unpredictability in the west is primarily due to how strong the high-pressure block will be. If it's strong enough, rain may not be a solution to the increasing risk of forest fires in the east.

With the onset of these weather systems, the fire risks are escalating near the Elbe river, rising from a moderate level 3 to climax at a forest fire danger level 4 or even 5 by Tuesday. The easterly part of the continent might witness decreased fire danger in the second half of the week once the rainfall and thunderstorms become frequent.

During this phase, the sun will reign supreme in the east. The heat pole will also be established in the northeast, causing extreme temperatures of around 25 degrees while the western and southern regions will experience a significant drop in temperatures, potentially plunging to 15 degrees.

What remains to be determined is the state of the weather during the Whitsun weekend and prospective holidays: the forecast presently suggests a blend of sunny days with highs of around 20 degrees. However, it's still too early to discuss any possibility of an early summer comeback. As of now, this is the probable scenario.

Monday night: The first lightning strikes

"Ildiko," an incoming low-pressure system from France and the Benelux, will bring clouds plus isolated showers to the southwest and west, and thunderstorms in some areas. Elsewhere, it will be a mixture of clear to partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will range from 16 to 6 degrees, with the most comfortable weather in the west and the chilliest in the northeast.

Monday: Periodic heavy thunderstorms

The western and southern parts of the European map are undergoing a massive weather transformation. Some patches could be pummeled by thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, hail, and squalls. Thunderstorms are expected to make their presence felt in the south starting from midday and will revolve around the Alps. However, it will be sunny and dry in the north and east, offering temperatures up to 26 degrees. The southwest will experience a warm 23 degrees. The coldest region will be alongside the Baltic Sea with a mild zephyr, set at 18 degrees.

Tuesday: Temperatures will plummet in the western half

Midweek will see the continuation of a mixed weather pattern in the west and occasional thunderstorms. In the east, however, the sun will dominate the skies, remaining dry for the area. Temperatures will vary between 18 degrees in the Eifel region to 27 degrees with sunshine.

Wednesday: More thunderstorms are forecasted

"Juli" will bring clear skies over the northeast, while intense weather conditions are forecast in the remaining countries. The frequency and intensity of thunderstorms will increase with some areas possibly witnessing thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall and squalls. The thermometre will show temperatures from 18 degrees in the Alps and whooping 26 degrees in the far east.

Thursday: The sun will be hard-pressed

The drier and clearer it is near the Oder and Neisse rivers, the better. The rest of the country will see a chequered and wet pattern with thunderstorms in the morning and increased frequencies in the afternoon. Thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and squalls are possible. A strong southerly breeze will prevail in the east and northeast alongside the squalls. Temperatures will be around 18 degrees atop the Alps and 26 degrees in the far east.

Friday and the weekend: A downhill trajectory approaching Whitsun

Overall, the weather outlook paints a highly dynamic picture. Scattered favorable intervals, often from thunderstorms and cool, showers are projected. High temperatures will fluctuate between 16 and 24 degrees on Friday. When reaching the weekend, temperatures are expected to hover between 16 and 22 degrees.
