During his visit to the front, Selenskyj seeks to instill hope.
A break from the constant fighting in northern Ukraine? While Russian soldiers haven't stopped advancing in the Kharkiv region, their speed has at least been reduced. President Zelensky visited the embattled area and claimed the situation was under control. But, the Kremlin troops are already eyeing the next village as their next target.
Zelensky visited the region experiencing heavy fire from Russia and stated that the situation in the Kharkiv region was, for now, stable. "Today, the overall situation in the Kharkiv region is relatively manageable, our troops are causing considerable damage to the invading forces," he expressed on his Telegram account. During a meeting with the top brass, he heard updates on the situation from Commander-in-Chief Olexander Syrskyj and the army commanders handling the front lines. Yet, he acknowledged some challenges in the area.
Relying on the reports, Zelenskyi mentioned additional forces would be deployed in the Kharkiv region due to the tense situation. The General Staff announced success in halting the significant Russian offensive that lasted for nearly a week. Although the enemy's plan to infiltrate deeply into Vovchansk's residential areas and establish a base there was thwarted. Skirmishes were taking place in the northern part of the city, only five kilometers from the Russian border. The General Staff also declared the situation under control.
Nevertheless, social media videos suggest that Russian troops are still taking small territorial gains in the north of Vovchansk. According to military analysts, a significant advantage of the attackers is needed to conquer cities. The Ukrainian military assumes that the Kremlin is mobilizing close to 30,000 soldiers for their attack on the Kharkiv region.
Lypzi, next on the Russian hit list
The Russian news agency RIA Nouvelles revealed that Russian troops were approaching the village of Lypzi and preparing to take it over. The village is located further west than Vovchansk and closer to Kharkiv itself.
Russian troops initiated a land assault in the Kharkiv border region at the end of last week. According to independent analysts, the momentum of the offensive has unmistakably decreased after a swift initial push. Russian forces have only managed to advance about eight kilometers into Ukrainian territory, as per the latest estimates by experts from the US-based think tank ISW.
