Sofi Tukker - Duo has to cancel European gigs in July

Live Finale of "Germany's Next Topmodel" on June 13 presented US-American Dance-Pop Duo Sofi Tukker with their new song "Spiral". Heidi Klum (51) participated in the music video. Unfortunately, three weeks later, fans received bad news: Sophie Hawley-Weld (32) and Tucker Halpern (34) cancel their European festival and concert series in July.

Tucker Halpern has contracted a Streptococcal infection

On the band's Instagram page, Tucker Halpern wrote that he was "really disappointed". "I've been looking forward to this all year and I'm sorry for all the people who made plans to see us, and for the promoters and festivals we committed to." However, he has been fighting a Streptococcal infection for over a month. "I've taken antibiotics several times, but the illness keeps coming back. We believe it's due to my autoimmune problems (which ended my basketball career in college), as my body can't fully eliminate the infection."

He also suffers from "extreme exhaustion, probably because my body has been trying to fight the Streptococcus for over a month while I was on tour". Halpern added: "In order to get well, I have to take a break from touring." This decision is not an easy one for the musician: "If you know me, you know this is the hardest thing. We're all optimistic that I'll get through this in 3-4 weeks and we'll be back on stage." His long statement ended with the words: "Europe, we'll be back soon."

They met at university

The duo met at Brown University in Providence. Originally, Hawley-Weld, who was born in Frankfurt am Main, wanted to become a dance teacher. In 2014, she joined forces with Halpern to form Sofi Tukker. Two years later, their first EP "Soft Animals" was released. The song "Drinkee" became an international hit on streaming platforms, made it to the charts in Australia and Italy, and was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Dance Recording category.
