Driver targets and kills Israelis at West Bank location.
Since the beginning of the Gaza conflict, violence in the occupied West Bank has also intensified. Recent reports from Israel suggest that two Israeli soldiers were killed in an attack by a Palestinian in Nablus. The assailant has since surrendered to the Palestinian police.
The preceding evening, an incident occurred where two Israelis lost their lives in the occupied West Bank, as per the Israeli military. The event took place outside Nablus in the northern part of the West Bank near an Israeli settlement, according to the army. A Palestinian driver allegedly rammed a vehicle, causing the deaths. The military affirmed the demise of two Israeli civilians. The suspect initially escaped but later surrendered to the Palestinian forces.
The identity of the deceased individuals was revealed by the military as Elija Hillel and Diego Schvischa Harsaj, both 20 years old. Hamas, the Islamist Palestinian organization, welcomed the attack near Nablus and referred to it as a "natural response" from "heroes" to "the enemy's crimes." Due to the ongoing Gaza war, the West Bank has experienced a significant increase in violence.
The Palestinian authorities report that at least 519 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military or Israeli settlers in the West Bank since October 7, including prominent militant Palestinians as well as civilians. During the same period, at least 14 Israelis lost their lives in the West Bank, based on official Israeli statistics.
The war between Israel and Hamas, deemed a terrorist organization by both the US and EU, has persisted for over seven months now. Hamas launched a massive attack on Israel on October 7 that resulted in the death of 1189 individuals, according to Israeli figures. Additionally, 252 individuals were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip.
Around 121 of these hostages are still presumed to be held by Hamas and other militant Palestinian groups, per Israeli estimates. In response to the unparalleled attack, Israel has launched a massive military offensive in the Gaza Strip continuously. According to the latest figures from the health ministry, an estimated 36,100 casualties have occurred there thus far.
