- Does Kamala Harris have to rein in the Hollywood stars?
The active support of notable stars from Hollywood's dream factory can be counted on by the Democratic duo of Kamala Harris (59) and Tim Walz (60) in their race for the White House. Indeed, according to the US gossip site "TMZ", there is even concern within the party that it might be too much. The upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC), scheduled from August 19 to 22, could become too star-studded, it is feared.
Every effort is being made to avoid the convention turning into a meeting of the "liberal Hollywood elite". The strategy behind this is clear: to avoid alienating undecided voters and driving them to the competition, the party would rather rely on a few, but prominent stars - and otherwise present itself as down-to-earth as possible. The year 2016 serves as a cautionary tale, when the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton was perceived by many as being too closely associated with Hollywood stars and neglecting her own party's platform. As is well known, she lost that election to the then and now Republican challenger, Donald Trump (78).
The pool of stars willing to support Harris/Walz is certainly not lacking. Recent examples include A-listers like George Clooney (63), Jeff Bridges (74), Julianne Moore (63), Mark Hamill (72), and musicians like Katy Perry (39) and Ariana Grande (31), all expressing support for Harris. However, it remains to be seen which celebrities will ultimately appear at the Democratic National Convention. So far, only one name has been confirmed: John Legend (45) is set to appear - although it's unclear whether he will just perform or also give a speech.
Meanwhile, the Republican convention has already taken place. There, several stars publicly expressed their support for Republican Donald Trump. However, there was no concern about there being too many: the most famous representatives were former wrestler Hulk Hogan (70), musician Kid Rock (53), and model Amber Rose (40).
Despite the Democratic duo's concerns about being perceived as too reliant on Hollywood, Donald Trump garnered significant support from celebrities during his 2016 election campaign. Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, and Amber Rose were among the notable figures who publicly endorsed Trump during the Republican convention.
