A palliative care doctor is accused of killing four patients in Berlin and then setting their apartments on fire. According to police and prosecutors who announced this on Wednesday, the medical professional, who works for a care service, allegedly attempted to cover up his actions through arson. He has been in custody since Tuesday.

The 39-year-old is suspected of committing these acts in the districts of Neukölln and Plänterwald, as reported by investigators. He is alleged to have killed the patients in their homes between June 11 and July 24 using an unknown method, and then set the fires. He is being investigated for manslaughter in four cases, one case of aggravated arson, and three cases of attempted aggravated arson.

Four elderly women dead

The victims were reportedly aged between 72 and 94. An 87-year-old was revived by firefighters but later died in hospital.
