Did 'The Simpsons' predict President Harris?

A Hip-Hop Concert, Trump Presidency, and now Kamala Harris as Head of State? It would be the third time that the creators of the anarchic cartoon "The Simpsons" have predicted later reality with an episode. The Republicans might be foaming at the mouth in anger.

The comic series "The Simpsons" may have staged Kamala Harris as the US President 22 years ago. A corresponding meme is currently going viral, following Joe Biden's announcement that he would withdraw as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate and nominate Harris as his replacement for the November election.

Attentive users on Reddit pointed out this possible "prediction." In a 2000 episode of "The Simpsons," the President is named Lisa Simpson, but she wears a lavender dress and a pearl necklace. Her attire resembles what Harris wore during Biden's inauguration in 2021. The showrunner of the cult show, Al Jean, himself posted the current political prophecy on his Reddit account, with the words: "The Simpsons prophecy: I'm proud to be part of it."

A user summarized the meme as follows: "The Simpsons have done it again! Here's Lisa Simpson as the first female President of the United States from the 17th episode of the 11th season (in 2000), discussing how the country had broken after President Trump. And next to her, Kamala, wearing the same outfit."

For Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20, 2021, Harris, who became the first woman and the first Black person to take the oath as US Vice President, wore a lavender ensemble and a pearl necklace. If she were President in 2025, she would be the first female Head of State of the USA. She would not follow Trump, as in the "Simpsons" episode, but defeat him in the campaign.

"Simpsons" Creators were right several times before

In the episode "Bart to the Future," Lisa Simpson is elected as Trump's successor as US President, a prediction made by the show in the year 2000. Dan Greaney, the television writer, explained to The Hollywood Reporter in 2016 how the accurate Trump prediction of the yellow cartoon series came about. "It was a warning to America," he said. The Trump presidency "was the last stop before the absolute bottom. We picked that up because it seemed in line with a vision of a completely collapsed America."

In the episode "Bart to the Future," the Simpson family visits a casino owned by Native Americans, but Bart is too young at ten years old to enter. He then thinks about the future in 30 years: Lisa will be elected President - after Trump's tenure. In her role as President in the episode, Lisa emphasizes in her function: "As you know, we inherited a significant budget deficit from President Trump."

In a 1996 episode, the creators "predicted" that the hip-hop band Cypress Hill would one day give a concert with the London Symphony Orchestra. This "Simpsons" vision came true on July 10 of that year.

The meme surrounding Kamala Harris' presidency highlights her resemblance to a fictional Lisa Simpson from a 2000 "The Simpsons" episode, where Lisa serves as President after Trump's term. Donald Trump, being the President at the time of this discussion, might find such predictions disturbing.

Referencing back to the past, "The Simpsons" had also predicted that hip-hop band Cypress Hill would perform with the London Symphony Orchestra, an event that actually occurred in 1996. This shows the uncanny ability of "The Simpsons" creators to foresee future events in entertainment.
