Deutsche Bahn announces additional trains for the Christmas period
Deutsche Bahn has announced the deployment of additional trains for the Christmas period. As the company announced on Thursday, 60 additional trains will run between December 20 and January 1, "especially on high-demand connections". This means that 35,000 additional seats will be available around Christmas and New Year's Eve.
The routes concerned include Berlin-Göttingen-Frankfurt, Hamburg-Hanover-Frankfurt-Basel and Cologne-Frankfurt-Stuttgart-Munich. In this way, Deutsche Bahn wants to "enable a relaxed start to the holidays", explained Michael Peterson, Member of the Executive Board responsible for long-distance passenger services. Despite the additional trains, Deutsche Bahn recommends "reserving a seat in any case".
Rail travelers need not worry about train cancellations due to strikes during the holidays. Deutsche Bahn is currently involved in a wage dispute with the train drivers' union GDL. However, GDL boss Claus Weselsky gave assurances a week ago that there would be no further industrial action until January 7. On Wednesday, however, he announced "longer industrial action" for the period after that.
