At the memorial events for the casualties of the assault in Solingen, dissenters stirred up disdainful remarks in the northern Rhine-Westphalian metropolis. As the Wuppertal police reported late Monday night, some individuals participating in a procession rally shouted the phrase "Germany for the Germans, foreigners out". Furthermore, a demonstrator is reported to have performed the Nazi salute. On Monday, various events in Solingen honored the victims of the attack.
Law enforcement in Solingen initiates legal proceedings
The aforementioned procession attracting attention due to its slogans had around 120 attendees, as stated by the police. Counter-protesters partially obstructed the path. Due to the slogans, the police dispersed the assembly and initiated legal proceedings. Post-dispersal, an impromptu demonstration with approximately a hundred participants emerged, during which a suspect is said to have displayed the Nazi salute. This also prompted a criminal complaint, as per the authorities.
In remembrance of the victims, several assemblies with a combined total of several hundred participants occurred in Solingen on Monday, including a vigil. At a city festival in Solingen on Friday, three individuals were slain and eight others injured, some severely. The alleged offender, a 26-year-old Syrian, surrendered on Saturday and was arrested. The Federal Prosecutor's Office is examining for suspected terrorism.
The Wuppertal police noted that during the dispersal of the controversial procession, one participant performed the Nazi salute, mirroring the controversial Hitler salute. The subsequent impromptu demonstration also saw another individual displaying the same offensive gesture.
