Demi Moore displaying her resilience towards Hollywood's complainers.
When Demi Moore flaunts her physique in a swimsuit at 40, it sparks a controversy. This pushes the actress into an existential dilemma. The young-centric bias of the movie industry is now challenged by the 61-year-old through saucy images.
"I'm thrilled!" Demi Moore rejoices on Instagram. Following her iconic cover of "Interview" US magazine in 1996, she now graces the current September issue. The ex-partner of Bruce Willis was captured by Saint Laurent, Gucci, or Bottega Veneta in high-end outfits. It's hard to believe that Moore is 61 years old in the sensuous photos. One image shows Moore sitting on a chair with her legs apart, revealing her champagne-colored silk slip. She dons a black blazer with a striking shoulder line and gazes tantalizingly into the camera. Moore exudes captivating allure.
In an interview with Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh for the magazine, the 61-year-old confesses that she didn't feel sexy in Hollywood around two decades ago. The catalyst was a bikini scene in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle". All of a sudden, Moore was confronted with the reality that her body was a worldwide topic of debate.
The Hollywood beauty standards took a heavier toll on Moore in her 40s compared to now, she shares: "I had starred in 'Charlie's Angels' and there were numerous comments about that bikini scene. It was often discussed how I looked. Then I realized that it seemed like there was no room for me in the industry anymore." She didn't feel completely out of place, but her age felt like an obstacle: "It was more that I felt like I'm not 20, I'm not 30, but I'm also not seen as the 'mother figure' in the industry."
"Why can't a 60-year-old be alluring?"
Her 62-year-old interviewer Yeoh concurs: "Hollywood is harsh on women at our age. You can't find scripts or roles that appeal to us. Either you're the mother or you're past the point of being considered attractive anymore. You think: Why can't a 45-year-old, a 50-year-old, or a 60-year-old be alluring?"
Yeoh, who received an Oscar for her role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once", believes that this perception is evolving - partly thanks to women like Moore and themselves: "Because people like you and I don't just accept this."
Intriguingly, Demi Moore's upcoming film "The Substance", set for release in September, tackles the theme of youth obsession in Hollywood. She portrays an actress who creates a younger version of herself using an experimental drug, played by rising star Margaret Qualley.
Demi Moore's candid confession in her interview sparked a discussion, questioning the norms of Hollywood. "The Hollywood," renowned for its youth-centric bias, is now under scrutiny due to Moore's bold stance.
