Demi Lovato harbors aspirations to eventually introduce the themes explored in the 'Child Star' documentary to Capitol Hill.

Demi Lovato chatted with CNN's Elizabeth Wagmeister in a discussion that aired on Wednesday's episode of "The Lead," discussing their upcoming documentary. She stated her hope that the doc would lead to legislation offering protection and compensation to young celebrities.

Lovato described the current digital era as a "wild, wild west," and how the rapidly evolving media landscape contrasts with her experiences as a child star.

Ultimately, she aims to bring these topics to Capitol Hill. "That would be amazing," she said.

"Child Star" is Lovato's first directorial project, which delves into the highs and lows of fame for young stars through the experiences of well-known former celebrities, as per an official synopsis.

Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci, and Raven-Symoné are featured in the film, discussing how they overcame adversity as child stars.

Lovato remarked, "Fame for a child brings instability," and when compounded with existing instability, it creates a situation ripe for trouble.

Lovato gained notoriety as an actor around age 10 on "Barney & Friends" in the early 2000s, and later became a prominent Disney Channel star and pop singer.

The "Cool for the Summer" artist has been candid about her battles with substance abuse, mental health issues, and disordered eating.

Regarding her growth, Lovato told CNN she takes pride in herself, stating, "I try to live by the philosophy of no regrets. Looking back at how resilient I've been during my darkest moments, I am incredibly proud of myself for emerging stronger and living a fulfilling life today."

"Child Star" is currently streaming on Hulu.
