Deceitful Individual Anna Sorokin Creates Waves of Attention
"Dancing With the Stars" in the USA is similar to "Let's Dance" in Europe. The current season's inclusion of imposter Anna Sorokin has caused quite the ruckus. Her selection by the audience led to an even bigger uproar.
From the get-go, Sorokin's participation was questionable. This might have contributed to her early elimination from "Dancing With The Stars" - a US version of "Let's Dance". Unfortunately, she received such minimal viewer support that she had to bow out after the second episode of the current season. Her exit was less than graceful, hence the continued controversy.
When questioned by host Julianne Hough about her takeaways from the competition, Sorokin simply said, "Nothing." Hough later shared this clip on her Instagram and captioned it, "There you have it... ICONIC," accompanied by a laughing and a skull emoji.
However, many of Hough's followers were less than amused by Sorokin's appearance. One user commented, "This is not iconic, this is tacky." Another user referred to it as "shameless."
Even judge Carrie Ann Inaba had harsh words for Sorokin's behavior. In an interview with "Entertainment Weekly," she described her remark as disrespectful to the chance given to the criminal and her dance partner Ezra Sosa, who made his debut in the 33rd season of the format. "We all tried to give her a fair shot, but I don't think she saw it that way, and that's a pity," Inaba explained. When asked if she thought the audience hadn't given Sorokin a chance, she replied, "I think our audience did what they thought was right." The fans are passionate and engaged and only vote for those who deserve it.
Sorokin's appearance on the dance show was controversial from the start and only possible under certain conditions. After all, the convicted imposter is still under house arrest. She had to wear an ankle monitor adorned with glitter stones to match her dance outfit. In the same episode, US actress Tori Spelling also quit "Dancing With The Stars."
Anna Sorokin was sentenced to at least four years in prison in 2019 for fraud. Under the pseudonym Anna Delvey, she allegedly posed as a German millionaire and reportedly obtained services and goods worth over $200,000 in Manhattan's high society.
Sorokin gained more fame with the Netflix miniseries "Inventing Anna" in 2022, which dramatized her story.
Despite her controversial entry, Sorokin's lackluster performance on "Dancing With the Stars" resulted in minimal viewer support, leading to her early elimination. Consequently, the media and social platforms were filled with criticism towards her deceitful participation in the US version of "Let's Dance," known for its renowned entertainment.
