Dacia dock showcases robustness, yet frequently witnesses inadequate upkeep.

The Dacia Dokker, named after a dockworker implying hard work and reliability, is quite sturdy. It offers a massive cargo space and can carry up to 600 kg, depending on the engine. However, the German Technical Inspection Association (TÜV) discovered more faults in the Dokker compared to the average vehicle, mainly due to negligible maintenance by frequent budget-conscious owners.

Background

In line with Dacia's tradition, the Dokker was introduced in 2012 and sold as a new car below 10,000 euros for a long time. It entered the German market in spring 2013 and underwent modifications in 2017, featuring a new grille and a rearview camera as an optional feature. R.E.N.AULT Express, another vehicle with a similar platform, succeeded the Dokker in spring 2021 and is no longer sold in Europe.

Design and Variants

Being a high-roofed van, the Dokker shares similarities with the Renault Kangoo and VW Caddy. The Stepway version, introduced in 2014, features plastic cladding on wheel arches and side sills without all-wheel drive or increased ground clearance. The Dokker Express, not covered in this analysis, is the van variant.

Dimensions (as per ADAC)

  • 4.36 meters x 1.75 meters x 1.81 meters (L x W x H)
  • Cargo volume: 800 to 3000 liters

Pros

The Dokker's massive cargo space is quite accessible, with two sliding side doors. The drive shafts and exhaust systems receive little criticism during the HU, and the brake lines are praised as "flawless" in the report.

Cons

According to the report, "issues escalate with time." From the third HU onwards, complaint rates for axles and shocks exceed the average. The report notes that axle suspensions are "twice as often criticized over time" compared to the competition. Lighting components score poorly in all model years, with parking brakes weakening during the second and third HU. Brake lines and discs are frequently faulty, while oil leaks emerge from the second check onwards.

Breakdown Behavior

Despite the issues mentioned, the Dokker performs well according to the ADAC breakdown statistics from 2013 to 2015. Models from 2016 to 2018 also show good performance. However, those from 2019 only manage to remain average due to limited registration numbers. ADAC identifies fuel pumps in cars from 2017 and 2019, as well as spark plugs in models from 2016, as the primary breakdown points.

Engines

  • Fuel (four-cylinder, front-wheel drive): 61 kW/83 PS to 95 kW/131 PS
  • Diesel (four-cylinder, front-wheel drive): 55 kW/75 PS to 70 kW/95 PS
  • Natural Gas (autogas): 59 kW/80 PS to 79 kW/107 PS

Dealer Resale Value According to German Automobile Trust (DAT) with Statistically Expected Kilometers - Three Price Examples

  • Dokker 1.6 SCe 100 Access (6/2019): 75 kW/102 HP (Four-Cylinder); 75,000 Kilometers; 7,909 Euros
  • Dokker 1.5 dCi 90 eco Stepway Start&Stop (6/2016): 66 kW/90 HP (Four-Cylinder); 134,000 Kilometers; 8,093 Euros
  • Dokker 1.6 SCe LPG 100 Celebration (6/2015): 75 kW/102 HP (Four-Cylinder); 123,000 Kilometers; 6,099 Euros

The Commission shall conduct regular inspections to ensure the Dacia Dokker adheres to safety standards, considering its frequent use and massive cargo capacity. Due to the Dokker's popularity among budget-conscious owners, it's crucial for the Commission to emphasize the importance of regular maintenance to maintain the vehicle's longevity.
