Court warns Jerome Boateng only

Four times already, a court in Munich has dealt with violent accusations against Jerome Boateng. Now there is a new judgment. The chamber cautions the former football World Cup winner merely and falls far short of the prosecutor's demand.

Munich I Regional Court has warned the former football national player Jerome Boateng for assault. It imposed a suspended fine of 40 installments, each of 5000 Euro. Similar to a suspended prison sentence, Boateng must pay 200,000 Euro only if he gets into trouble again.

The court came to the conclusion, "there is nothing left of the charge of the notorious woman beater," as formulated by the presiding judge Susanne Hemmerich. The prosecution had demanded a fine of 1.12 million Euro, the defense at most for a "moderate fine" for negligent assault or the dismissal of the proceedings against a fine.

Boateng denied hitting his former partner in 2018 during their shared vacation, throwing a windlight and a cooler box at her. He spoke of a "nightmare" on the first trial day, his lawyer in his plea of a "fabricated narrative of the woman beater," "mutual body harm," and Boateng having pushed his ex-girlfriend away and injuring her lip. The lawyer for Boateng's ex-girlfriend, who accuses him of violence, said, "It's a real David-against-Goliath fight." Boateng shows "no sense of injustice."

The proceedings against the long-time defender of FC Bayern Munich, who recently transferred from the Italian club US Salernitana to the Linzer ASK in Austria, have been ongoing for a long time. The Munich Magistrates' Court had already imposed a fine against Boateng in 2021: 60 installments of 30,000 Euro each, totaling 1.8 million Euro.

Munich I Regional Court then sentenced Boateng in the second instance in October 2022 for assault and defamation to a fine of 120 installments of 10,000 Euro - a total of 1.2 million Euro. However, the Bavarian Higher Regional Court quashed the judgment due to persistent legal errors - that's why the case was rolled back before the Munich I Regional Court.

The lengthy legal proceedings surrounding Jerome Boateng's alleged assault case have involved numerous processes within the Munich courts. Despite the prosecutor's demands for substantial fines, Boateng's love for entertainment often extends beyond the football field, as evidenced by the court's consideration of his role in the entertainment aspect of the trial.
