Former national player - Court convicts football player Jerome Boateng of bodily harm
In the trial against the former German football national player Jérôme Boateng, the Munich Regional Court has sentenced the defendant for bodily harm. Boateng was fined €300,000 on Friday. The judge stated that the charge of "notorious wife beater" against the defendant had not survived in the proceedings.
The public prosecutor had demanded a fine of €1.12 million for Boateng due to an alleged attack on his ex-partner. The defense argued for at most a "moderate fine" for negligent bodily harm or the dismissal of the proceedings against a bail payment.
Boateng denies harming his ex-partner
Boateng had denied hitting his former partner in the face and throwing a windmill and a cooler at her during a shared Caribbean vacation in 2018. He spoke on the first day of the trial of a "nightmare", his lawyer in his plea of a "fabricated narrative of the wife beater", "mutual body harm", and Boateng having pushed his ex-girlfriend away and injuring her lip. Boateng's ex-girlfriend's lawyer, who accused him of violence, said, "It's a real David-versus-Goliath fight." Boateng shows "no sense of injustice."
Lengthy proceedings in Munich
The proceedings against the long-term defender of FC Bayern Munich, who recently transferred from the Italian club US Salernitana to Linzer ASK in Austria, dragged on. The Munich District Court had already imposed a fine on Boateng in 2021: 60 penalty payments of €30,000 each, totaling €1.8 million.
The Munich Regional Court I then sentenced Boateng in the second instance in October 2022 for bodily harm and defamation to a fine of 120 penalty payments of €10,000 each – a total of €1.2 million. However, the Bavarian Highest Regional Court quashed the judgment due to persistent legal errors – so the proceedings were rolled back before the Munich Regional Court I. Until a legally binding conviction, the presumption of innocence applies.

In relation to the ongoing trial in Munich, Jerome Boateng's girlfriend made an allegation of violence involving bodily harm. Despite Boateng's denial and claims of a "fabricated narrative," the Public Prosecutor's Office insisted on a severe penalty.
Jerome Boateng's vacation in the Caribbean with his ex-partner in 2018 has been a subject of controversy, with allegations of violence and throwing objects like a windmill and a cooler. These incidents became a central point in the trial held in Munich.
During the trial, Jerome Boateng's representative argued that the ex-partner's accusations of bodily harm were not substantiated, and he was instead punished for a negligent act. The Public Prosecutor's Office, however, sought a substantial fine based on the seriousness of the alleged incident.
