Costume of Carrie Fisher as Slave Leia sold

One of the most famous costumes in film history: A tight Bikini worn by Carrie Fisher in "Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi." The outfit is now being auctioned off in the USA for over 160,000 Euro.

A famous outfit of the late Star-Wars actress Carrie Fisher was sold in the USA for over 175,000 Dollars (umgerechnet mehr als 160,000 Euro) at Heritage Auctions in Dallas.

Fisher, who died in December 2016 at the age of 60, wore the costume in her role as Princess Leia in "Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi." In the 1983 film, Leia is held as a personal slave by crime boss Jabba, until she strangles him with the chain she was previously chained to.

The costume was designed by Richard Miller. Heritage Auctions described it as: "Without a doubt, Carrie Fisher's 'Slave Leia' costume is one of the most memorable in the Star-Wars franchise."

However, the costume and the scenes in the film are highly controversial. Fisher herself has spoken out against the outfit. In an interview, she once said, "When George Lucas showed me the costume, I thought he was joking," she said. "It made me very nervous. I had to sit very still to prevent wrinkles." She also added, "There were no wrinkles allowed, so I had to sit very, very straight."

Fisher found it amusing in the end, according to her own words, when she was able to strangle Jabba with the chain he had used to enslave her. "I really enjoyed it, because I hated wearing that outfit and sitting stiffly," she said. "I couldn't wait to kill him." Many fans still consider the corresponding scenes to be sexist, as they reduce the only major female character in the original trilogy to an object.

At the auction, a miniature version of a Y-wing spacecraft used during the filming of the first Star-Wars film was also sold. It went for the impressive sum of 1.55 Million Dollars (1.4 Million Euro).

The bikini outfit that caused a stir in "Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi," worn by the late Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, was not only iconic but alsofetching enough to secure a high bid at the auction, reaching an astounding 175,000 Dollars (roughly equivalent to 150,000 Euros). Enticing entertainment beyond just movies, such memorabilia serves as a bridge between audiences and their beloved characters, offering a unique slice of entertainment history.
