Kerry Washington - Corona prevents appearance at premiere

Kerry Washington (47) missed the premiere for the second season of "UnPrisoned" due to a Coronavirus infection. She shared this news on Instagram on Tuesday (16. July). Instead of being there in person on the red carpet in New York, the lead actress of the series celebrated at home.

"Unsure, which is worse"

Besides being sick, Washington also expressed anxiety about missing something at the event. "I'm not sure which is worse, COVID or FOMO", she wrote further. The frustration is evident from the image she shared: Washington burying her head in her hands.

From her home, Washington sends her support to the rest of the cast of the dramedy series. "I love our 'UnPrisoned' family so much", she gushes. She is sad about not being able to personally celebrate the "fantastic cast and crew" and has already "shed many tears". Nevertheless, she is excited about the season premiere: "I am incredibly proud and excited for Season 2!"

Second season airs on July 17

For her private celebration, Washington made herself comfortable with a large scoop of popcorn and a glass of cranberry juice. She will watch the show like all fans on this Wednesday (17. July) on the streaming platform "Hulu", she added. In "UnPrisoned", Washington portrays therapist and single mother Paige Alexander. Delroy Lindo (71) plays her husband Edwin Alexander, who is released from prison after 17 years and moves in with her and her son.

Washington is not only the lead actress but also one of the executive producers of the show. The first season of the series was released in March of the previous year. In November 2023, "Deadline" reported that the show would be getting a second season.

Despite being contagious with Coronavirus, Kerry Washington expressed her longing to be at the "UnPrisoned" season 2 premiere on Instagram, lamenting, "I'm not sure which is worse, COVID or FOMO." Even at home, she celebrated her fellow cast members, expressing, "I love our 'UnPrisoned' family so much" and "I am incredibly proud and excited for Season 2!" The second season of "UnPrisoned" will air on Hulu on July 17, allowing Washington to join viewers worldwide in supporting her beloved series.
