Olaf Scholz - Corona in the Chancellery again
Olaf Scholz (65) has been infected with the coronavirus. The Federal Chancellor announced on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday afternoon that his coronavirus tests had turned out positive.
He wrote on the short messaging service: "This is clearly not a surprise that I am happy about. My current Covid-19 tests show two lines. With few symptoms, I'm counting on a mild course and just working from my desk for now." Scholz lives in Potsdam, but it is not known where he will recover from his coronavirus illness.
This is not the chancellor's first Covid-19 infection: he tested positive for coronavirus once before in the fall of 2022. At the time, he had isolated himself in the small apartment in the Chancellery in order to continue his work.
Appointments canceled
In the next few days, Scholz was supposed to receive Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico (59) and chair the Federal Cabinet meeting. The former has already been canceled and Scholz will probably chair the meeting via video link.
With New Year's Eve and Christmas just around the corner, the illness is also likely to put a spanner in the works for him privately this year.
According to the Robert Koch Institute, there are currently more coronavirus infections than there have been for 1.5 years.
