Container exhibition triumphs for Marcus from Berlin

Zlatko Trpkovski and Jürgen Milski's move into the "Big Brother" container stirred up some excitement in 2024. But the reality show struggled to entice viewers, with only 170,000 tuning into the streaming service Joyn each week. Their final episode saw just 100,000 individuals catch a glimpse of the remaining contestants.

The season's victor was Marcus, a 36-year-old man who managed to secure 50.54% of votes in the public poll. Fraulein Frauke, auburn-haired and familiar to some viewers from RTL’s 'Take Me Out', barely missed out, with 49.46% of the votes. Despite having shared the studio with Marcus for a hundred days, she was forced to bow out in second place. Frauke, with her showbiz popularity, had to concede defeat to Marcus.

The top three also included Berliner Marcus, who impressed his competitors and spectators alike with his winsome charm. He thanked his viewers for their love and support, even as tears streamed down his face.

Maja came in sixth place, followed by Mateo, Christian, and Benedikt, who managed to snag a third place finish. These participants displayed impressive fortitude and resolve.

The 14th iteration of "Big Brother" premiered on German television in 2000, with contestants such as Trpkovski, Milski, and winner John Milz living in a container and undergoing 24/7 surveillance. To the general public at the time, it was a mammoth media scandal.

A century later, the show's essence changed drastically. In 2024, the public seemed less interested. With only 170,000 Joyn weekly viewers, the streaming medium attracted minimal fanfare. The ratings for Sat.1, which broadcast a weekly live show hosted by Jochen Schropp alongside the streaming platform's content, also dipped significantly. The final live show was aired exclusively on Joyn, with a recorded version later shown on Sat.1.

The container housed twenty contestants, some of whom had entered the show in hope of increasing their visibility — and they may have succeeded, depending on their success.

Frauke, already known to some RTL viewers, came second.

Despite the lower viewership, ProSiebenSat1 continued to broadcast "Big Brother" in 2024, airing the final live show exclusively on their streaming platform Joyn. The reality TV show's shift towards digital entertainment didn't seem to captivate as many viewers as the original container exhibition did, with only Reality TV shows like "Big Brother" facing decreased TV ratings and increased focus on entertainment through digital platforms.
