Russian military attack - Conflict in Ukraine: the current status

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is actively trying to get the involvement of Southeast Asian nations in the upcoming peace summit in Switzerland. In recent meetings, he's talked with the Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto and East Timor's Prime Minister, José Ramos-Horta, who both seem keen to join the peace conference. Zelenskyy has also scheduled a meeting with Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. His aim is to gather as many countries as possible to pressure Russia into making concessions.

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy is also expected to attend the G7 summit in two weeks, according to the Italian government. However, it's unclear if he'll be there in person or simply through video conference.

Traveling to these high-level meetings for support has been a continuous effort for Zelenskyy. Last year, he went to the G7 summit in Japan and his attendance was only confirmed shortly before the event.

Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban, on the other hand, praised right-wing parties as peacemakers during his campaign for the European elections. He believes that their strengthening in Europe and Donald Trump's possible victory in the US election will result in a "transatlantic peace coalition."

Since 2010, Orban has transformed Hungary into a country with close ties to Moscow. He's blocked or weakened sanctions against Russia in the EU, despite their invasion of Ukraine. As a result, Hungary is largely isolated in the EU.

Simultaneously, Russia's daily destruction in Ukraine continues. The water power plant in Zaporizhzhia has been critically damaged after a Russian rocket attack. Experts are now assessing the safety of the dam, causing traffic restrictions on the left bank and right bank. Past months have seen several attacks on this power plant, with the most recent causing a fire and resulting in temporary traffic blockages.

Zelenskyy, meanwhile, will continue pushing for Ukraine's "peace formula" at the Singapore security forum, which entails Russia withdrawing from all occupied Ukrainian territories.

Interesting facts: How about that; the Southeast Asian nations' involvement in the Ukrainian peace summit and Zelenskyy's next appearance at the G7 summit? Who would have thought right-wing parties in Europe would be considered peacemakers? Orban's thought process is quite intriguing, isn't it? But the water power plant's critical condition is a severe problem now. We'll have to wait and see what comes out of this whole situation.
