Concert organizer apologizes after death of fan

At a concert by superstar Taylor Swift in Rio de Janiero, a woman collapses and dies shortly afterwards. In high temperatures, fans were not allowed to bring water bottles into the stadium. The organizer of the concert now apologizes and admits mistakes.

Following the death of a young woman at a concert by US pop star Taylor Swift in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the local concert organizer has asked for an apology. The organizer of Swift's concerts in Brazil has been criticized because, according to fans, he had forbidden the 60,000 visitors at the singer's first concert in the city to take water into the stadium - despite the high temperatures. A 23-year-old woman lost her life.

"We recognize that in addition to everything we did, we could have taken alternative measures," explained Time For Fun, the organizer of the sold-out concert. For example, shade structures could have been erected in outdoor areas or the concerts could have been moved to a time with less high temperatures.

"I would like to apologize to all those who did not have the best possible experience," said Time For Fun boss Serafim Abreu in a video that was published online. He expressed his "deepest condolences" to the relatives of the deceased 23-year-old.

According to the concert organizer, the young woman was treated quickly on site after feeling unwell. She collapsed and was later taken to hospital. The Brazilian newspaper "O Globo" reported that a preliminary autopsy had revealed that the 23-year-old had suffered a lung haemorrhage and three heart attacks.

Swift had said after the death that she was "devastated". She postponed another concert planned for Saturday in Brazil until Monday. Her "Eras Tour" is to continue on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with concerts in the Brazilian metropolis of São Paulo.

Time For Fun boss Abreu said that climate change would lead to increasingly frequent heatwaves. "The entire concert industry needs to rethink how it works in the face of this new reality," he warned.

Despite the criticism, Taylor Swift's entertainment company decided to continue her tour in Brazil. However, some fans expressed disappointment, mentioning Taylor Swift and the potential impact of misfortunes on future concert experiences in Brazil.
