Billie Eilish - Coming out was "cool" for her

Singer Billie Eilish (22) sees herself as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Somehow this has always been clear to all observers, but the pop star herself has never said it out loud. Until the recent "Variety" cover story, in which she spoke more openly about her inclinations for the first time, but without being completely specific. "I never felt like I was good at putting myself in girls' shoes," Eilish says verbatim. "I love them so much. I love them as people. I'm attracted to them as people. I'm really attracted to them," said the singer.

She also said, "I have deep connections to women in my life, the family in my life." She feels "physically attracted to them", but is also intimidated by their "presence and their beauty". She now fleshed out these still somewhat vague statements in a further interview with "Variety", making it clear that she was completely unaware that the public did not yet know her stance on the subject.

She didn't want to come out with her statements, but: "Wasn't it obvious? I didn't realize that people didn't know that." She had been thinking along these lines for a long time, but had simply not spoken about it until now. The singer read the article herself and thought to herself: "Oh, I think I came out today." It was exciting for her and also "cool" that people now knew.

Billie Eilish: "I will never feel female"

Eilish also spoke to "Variety" about her gender identity and pointed out that she doesn't actually give it much thought. It may be because she has never felt desired or desirable. That's why she doesn't care about her sexuality. "I've never felt like a woman, to be honest. I will never feel feminine," says Eilish. Although she already identifies as "she/her", she has never really felt like a girl.

Eilish's only publicly known relationships have been with men. Among others, she dated the rapper Brandon Adams (26) and the singer Jesse James Rutherford (32). To this day, romances with women have not found their way into the public eye.
