"Comedy has given me a wonderful life," said Bob Newhart once. In the 70s and 80s, the comedian had two Sitcoms bearing his name, later he appeared in the successful series "The Big Bang Theory". Now Newhart has passed away in Los Angeles.
From a bored bookkeeper to a celebrated Comedy-Star: For nearly 60 years, US-Comedian Bob Newhart stood in the limelight, with two Sitcoms carrying his name. Now he is gone at the age of 94 in Los Angeles. Numerous US-Media report that Newhart had been suffering from a series of short illnesses in his final days.
CNN quoted Newhart's spokesperson Jerry Digney as saying, "The passing of the award-winning entertainer marks the end of a Comedy Era." The 1929-born George Robert "Bob" Newhart made his breakthrough in the early 1960s with a Comedy-Album. Before that, he earned his living as a bookkeeper in Chicago. In the following decades, he acted in numerous films and series.
Newhart was well-known to a large audience from the series "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-1978) and "Newhart" (1982-1990). Later, he appeared in the Christmas film "Elf" (2003) with Will Ferrell in the lead role or in the comedy "Naturally Blond 2" with Reese Witherspoon. He won numerous awards, including several Grammys and a Golden Globe.
Newhart apparently didn't think about retiring even in old age, as he had guest appearances in newer US-Series like "Young Sheldon" and "The Big Bang Theory", for which he won an Emmy in 2013. With his late wife Virginia Quinn, the frequently awarded Newhart had four children. "Comedy has given me a wonderful life," Newhart once said. The sound of laughter is "one of the greatest sounds in the world".
Despite his advanced age and health challenges, Newhart continued to make death-defying appearances in Comedy-centric shows like "Young Sheldon" and his former hit series "The Big Bang Theory," securing an Emmy award in 2013. Regrettably, it was the world of Hollywood that bid farewell to the renowned Comedian Bob Newhart, known for his comedy albums and beloved sitcoms like "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart," as he passed away, leaving a significant number of Comedy cases and memorable performances behind.
