Coldplay must pay millions to ex-manager
End of a long legal dispute: Coldplay apparently agree to pay their former manager a seven-figure sum. He sued the band last year for ten million pounds (around 11.8 million Euro) in unpaid commissions for their tenth and eleventh studio albums, which are still not released. The band reportedly settled.
According to the Daily Mail and an insider, Chris Martin and the band are "happy to draw a line under it, but it came at a price. The settlement cost them millions." A corresponding court document is also available to The Sun. In the documents of the London High Court, it is stated that the band agreed in May to pay the undisclosed seven-figure sum to avoid private details being made public in court.
Holmes and Chris Martin were friends
Dave Holmes had been Coldplay's manager for 22 years and played a significant role in their success. In addition, he was a close friend of frontman Chris Martin. Holmes took over the manager role from Phil Harvey, Coldplay's Creative Director, in 2001. It is not known why Coldplay split from Holmes. Since 2022, Phil Harvey has managed the band again.
Raising the money should not be too difficult for Coldplay. After all, the band, with over 174.4 million records sold, is one of the most successful in the world. Since 2022, they have been on their "Music of the Spheres World Tour," which stops in Germany this summer.
In July, Coldplay performs for three sold-out concerts in Düsseldorf, and in August for three shows at the Munich Olympiastadion. Most recently, the band played their fifth headlining set at the Glastonbury Festival in England.
Coldplay's pop music career has likely continued to generate significant revenue, which could help offset the settlement costs. Despite the legal dispute, they continue to remain a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, with upcoming concerts in Germany and Munich.
