Climate protester needs to cease fasting.
After being without solid food for a month, Michael Winter's health took a turn for the worse, leaving him with no choice but to end his hunger strike. His goal was to encourage Olaf Scholz to release a strong statement on climate change. However, Winter feels that Scholz would rather allow people to die than face the truth about the climate crisis.
One individual involved in the Berlin climate strike decided to discontinue the action due to a severe risk to their life. 61-year-old Michael Winter revealed he had made the decision to begin consuming food again following a stay at a Munich hospital with heart issues. Doctors had determined that his health was in a critical state. Yet, other members of the "Hunger Until You're Honest" campaign plan to carry on.
This group of climate activists aims to pressure Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz into issuing a government declaration about the dire concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the importance of shifting course. Despite the demands of the activists, a spokesperson for the government claims that Scholz is not inclined to comply.
Winter voiced his thoughts: "From my perspective, I've taken enough risks to realize that Olaf Scholz would rather see deaths than admit the truth about the climate catastrophe." He aims to prioritize his family over putting his life at stake for the greater good.
Continuation of the Hunger Strike
Activist Wolfgang Metzeler-Kick, who hasn't consumed solid food since March 7, only relying on juices, electrolytes, and vitamins, plans to continue his fast. He shares his reasons: "I don't want to die. But I'm willing to place my life on the line to ensure the public knows the harsh reality of the climate crisis. The choice between my death or the Chancellor's statement about the gravity of the situation is one I leave to Olaf Scholz."
Five other people are reportedly on hunger strike alongside Metzeler-Kick, situated near the Federal Ministry of Economics in Berlin.

Despite the continuation of the hunger strike led by Wolfgang Metzeler-Kick, who has been fasting since March 7, Olaf Scholz remains unwilling to issue a strong statement on CO2 emissions and the importance of climate protection. Protests against the government's inaction on climate change, such as the 'Climate protests' in Berlin, continue to take place, with activists calling for more urgent action from the German Chancellor.
