Christina Block: "The children are with me"
After an attack on two children and Christina Block's ex-husband on New Year's Eve, the steakhouse heiress speaks out. The two are with her. However, she does not want to say any more, as there are still many unanswered questions.
After the attack on a father and the disappearance of two children in southern Denmark, the mother has now spoken out. Christina Block, the daughter of Eugen Block, the founder of the Block House restaurant chain, said through a company spokeswoman that the children were with her.
She expressed her thanks for the countless good wishes. "The children are well. I ask for your understanding that I am not making any further statements at this time, primarily out of concern for the welfare of my children," the spokesperson said in the statement.
According to the Danish police, the father was attacked near a restaurant shortly after midnight on New Year's Eve while watching the New Year's Eve fireworks with his two children in the town of Gråsten (Gravenstein).
Dispute over custody
The two children, reportedly a boy aged 10 and a girl aged 13, were forced into a car. They are being investigated for assault and deprivation of liberty, the police added. The kidnappers' cars had been found by the German police, it was reported from Denmark.
Christina Block has been fighting with her ex-husband for years over custody of their children. The Danish police assumed that the incident on New Year's Eve was related to a disagreement between the children's parents over custody.
In the summer of 2021, Stephan Hensel kept the two now abducted children with him in Denmark after a visit. The 17-year-old daughter Johanna is said to be living with her father voluntarily. The daughter Greta, who is two years younger, lives with Christina Block in Hamburg.
In 2021, Hensel said that the children did not want to return to their mother in Hamburg, while Block said that the children were being kept from her. In February 2023, there was a ruling on custody, the Danish court awarded the children to the father and Christina Block is said to have been granted supervised access rights (every two weeks).
