Christina Applegate was pushed into beauty surgery.

Hollywood stars often prefer to keep quiet about beauty operations. "Married... with Children" star Christina Applegate is now making her procedure public, including the fact that she didn't entirely volunteer for it.

In her podcast "MeSsy" with her friend Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Christina Applegate, now 52, who played Kelly Bundy in the cult sitcom "Married... with Children" and launched her international career, admits to having had plastic surgery in her younger years to remove bags under her eyes. "You know what I did? At 27, I had the only plastic surgery I've ever had, to remove the bags under my eyes," she reveals, referring to a blepharoplasty.

However, vanity wasn't the only reason for the procedure. "I was in a TV show, and one of the producers - a very famous person who also made a very famous show - said, 'Hey, we're having a hard time lighting you under your eyes. The bags under there are so big'," she recalls. The producer suggested she have them removed. At the time, Applegate was the lead in the NBC sitcom "Jesse," which aired for two seasons from 1998 to 2000.

"Seeds of insecurity"

Applegate explains to podcast listeners that the dark circles under her eyes were "genetic" and jokes that her father, record producer Robert Applegate, had "Louis Vuitton bags under his eyes." After the producer's comments, she felt "shame" and they planted "seeds of insecurity" in her head.

Christina Applegate went public with her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, just a few months after receiving the news. "I had symptoms for six or seven years" by that point, the actress said, since then openly discussing her MS. In June, the mother of a teenage daughter said in a podcast episode that she couldn't enjoy life since the diagnosis and opened up about "a heavy depression that's also a little scary" as a result of the neurological autoimmune disease.

After revealing her struggle with multiple sclerosis, Christina Applegate reflectively mentioned, "Despite my health challenges, I still remember the impact of the television producer's comments about my appearance years ago." Later in her conversation, she expressed, "Even though I've had a successful career on television, I once relied on a procedure to improve my appearance on set, demonstrating how the industry can sometimes influence our perception of beauty."
