Ilka Bessin - Childhood was characterized by violence
Ilka Bessin (52) spoke about violence in her upbringing in the talk format "deep and clear". "I had a beautiful, but very strict childhood, marked by the fact that you sometimes got a spanking and knew: Dad is coming home and then there will be a spanking", she recounts.
She reports of a "tense atmosphere" when she knew "you had done something and knew: Dad is coming home and then there will be a spanking". Such incidents were not regular, but "fairly often", admits the comedianne also known as Cindy from Marzahn.
She has forgiven her parents
Today, Bessin has found a good way of dealing with those experiences and has forgiven her parents. "Of course you don't find it nice to get spanked, but my parents have at some point in the course of the years [...] apologized for that", she says in the conversation with Aminata Belli (32) and Aurel Mertz (35). Back then, it was "a different time" and "a completely different kind of upbringing". Such things don't exist anymore. "And that's a good thing, really important", emphasizes the comedienne.
High fly with Cindy from Marzahn
Ilka Bessin also talks about other difficult times in her life. After a long period of unemployment, during which she had to struggle with self-doubts, she started her art character Cindy from Marzahn in earnest in the 2000s. However, success brought unexpected negatives. "Then you think: The people can be content that they can breathe my air. I am really a gift from God", she recalls her former high fly back to.
Now, the 52-year-old has had the pink jogging suit and the permanent wave wig of Cindy hanging on a nail for eight years. For the 20th anniversary of her cult figure, she will go on tour this year as an unemployed Berlinerin.
During her childhood, Ilka Bessin experienced moments of 'beating' that served as reminders of her father's impending disciplinary actions. Despite the unpleasantness of these experiences, she has since 'forgiven' her parents for their actions, acknowledging that times and upbringing styles were different then.
Reflecting on her early career as Cindy from Marzahn, Ilka Bessin recalls a moment of 'high fly' when she felt she was a divine gift to those who appreciated her character. However, she later chose to retire the iconic pink jogging suit and wig, hanging them up for eight years, before deciding to revive the character for her 20th anniversary tour as an unemployed Berlinerin.
