Kolja Kleeberg, recognized from shows like "The Kitchen Battle", "The Cooking Arena", or "Lanz cooks!", is none other than the renowned TV chef known in Berlin and beyond. Unfortunate for those who crossed paths with him in the city, they might not have recognized his reputation. At 60, Kleeberg now shares a harrowing account from his time in the capital.
Based in Berlin for a considerable period, Kleeberg was once the boss at the restaurant Vau. However, it was his appearances on various TV shows that made him a household name. Sharing the screen with Markus Lanz and Johannes B. Kerner, and showcasing his skills on networks like ZDF and Vox, he certainly made an impact with shows like "The Kitchen Battle" and "The Cooking Arena".
However, Kleeberg is making headlines recently for an unfortunate incident in his adopted home. In an exclusive interview with "Bild" newspaper, he detailed an attack he experienced in June 26, amidst the European Football Championship celebrations in Germany.
The attack happened around 11 pm as Kleeberg was making his way home through Charlottenburg district. According to the newspaper, four young men approached him, seemingly interested in football. Despite his preference for handball, he attempted to salvage the situation with a joke about football - which unfortunately, was not well-received as they weren't fluent in German.
Physical Assault
The situation turned sour quickly, Kleeberg recalls, as the assailants demanded his phone and tried to negotiate. In a bid to diffuse the situation, he handed over a 20-euro bill, expecting they would buy themselves a drink. But his action only fueled the aggression further.
He was physically assaulted, punched in the chest, kicked, and forced into a doorway. Breathlessness ensued as the attackers went on to steal his wallet, causing major distress and trauma.
With a head injury and bruises, Kleeberg returned home and his wife accompanied him to the hospital. The incident has left lasting impacts and continues to haunt him to date. He has officially registered a complaint with the police against the unidentified assailants.
Despite his fame from shows like "The Kitchen Battle" and "The Cooking Arena", the attackers in Charlottenburg district failed to recognize Kolja Kleeberg's reputation as a renowned TV chef. The entertainment sector has been shaken by the physical assault on Kleeberg, leaving him with a head injury and bruises.
