Head of government - Chancellor Scholz has corona
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz has contracted coronavirus. "My current Covid-19 tests show two lines," the SPD politician wrote on the short message service X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. "With few symptoms, I am counting on a mild course and am only working from my desk for the time being." Scholz wrote that it was not a surprise that he was happy about.
Scholz is in his office and is taking part in video conferences, among other things, said government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit. "He is hoping for a speedy recovery." The Chancellor will not be attending public appointments on Monday and Tuesday. A visit by Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico for Tuesday has been canceled, Hebestreit said. Scholz could join the cabinet meeting on Wednesday if necessary; if he could not be physically in the room, Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) would chair the meeting.
