Song used illegally in election campaign - Céline Dion with a side hustle against Donald Trump
Joining the long line of musicians upset about the unauthorized use of their songs at a Donald Trump (78) campaign event is Céline Dion (56). Her official Instagram account clarified that Dion has no connection to the Republican campaign: "Today, Céline Dion's management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., were made aware of the unauthorized use of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Céline Dion at a Trump and JD Vance campaign event in Montana, where 'My Heart Will Go On' was sung."
"This was not authorized in any way," the statement continued. Dion also stressed that she wants to prevent similar uses in the future. The post ended with a dig at Trump and his campaign: "And, really, THIS song?" Dion famously sang "My Heart Will Go On" over 25 years ago to accompany the sinking of the "Titanic," a fact that the political opposition on X has also highlighted and laughed about.
Legal Consequences Looming?
Trump's use of artists' music without their consent during his White House run is not new. In the past, Adele (36), the White Stripes, Bruce Springsteen (74), Neil Young (78), and Elton John (77), among others, have publicly expressed their displeasure and banned further use.
However, in Dion's case, more serious legal consequences could be imminent, as reported by the U.S. website "Variety." The reason is that not only was the song played, but an old recording of Dion performing "My Heart Will Go On" was also shown on the video screen.
