Céline Dion no longer has muscle control

Almost a year ago, Céline Dion largely withdrew from the public eye. The reason for this is a chronic illness. Now her sister Claudette gives a health update and offers little hope that the singer will be able to return to the stage.

Céline Dion suffers from a chronic illness that makes concert appearances impossible for her. In May, she therefore canceled her world tour, but expressed the hope that she would be able to return to the stage at some point. However, a comeback seems doubtful. In an interview with the Canadian TV channel "7 Jours ", her sister Claudette Dion revealed the true state of the legendary singer's health.

According to the interview, the chronic autoimmune disease "Stiff Person Syndrome" seems to be progressing further and further. "She works hard, but she has no control over her muscles," says Claudette Dion. "It breaks my heart because she's always been so disciplined." The 55-year-old has always worked hard. "Our mom always told her: 'You'll do well if you do it right'." Together with her sister, she would dream of being able to return to the stage. "In what condition? I don't know." The condition is under-researched, she says, as it doesn't affect many people.

Cramps make performances impossible

The musician, who became famous with songs such as "My Heart Will Go On" and "Because You Loved Me", suffers from a chronic autoimmune disease called "stiff person syndrome", which leads to muscle spasms in stressful situations and makes performances impossible.

In December 2022, Céline Dion herself announced her diagnosis in an Instagram video. Since then, she has interrupted her music career, largely disappeared from the public eye and is said to have retreated to her villa in Las Vegas. At the beginning of November, however, she even sang again at a Vegas Golden Knights ice hockey game against the Montreal Canadiens.

Dion's sister Claudette had already stated in September that the singer was doing everything she could to get well again. Although she is "a strong woman", the family unfortunately "can't find any medication that works", as she said in an interview. However, Céline Dion is working with "the best researchers in this field". "I honestly believe that what she needs most is rest."
