Car crashes into Biden's motorcade
A scary moment for the US President and his security staff: in the US state of Delaware, a vehicle rams into an SUV from Joe Biden's motorcade. The Secret Service is on the scene immediately and Biden and the First Lady are led away.
A loud bang, startled security forces and a surprised President: in the US state of Delaware, a car crashed into a vehicle in US President Joe Biden's motorcade. The incident occurred on Sunday evening after a visit by the President to his campaign headquarters in his home town of Wilmington.
Biden was leaving the downtown building when a silver-colored car crashed into a Secret Service SUV parked at an intersection about 40 meters away. The President looked up in surprise and was taken into a waiting vehicle by bodyguards. Security officers surrounded the car with their guns drawn and the driver raised his hands in the air.
However, it was probably just an accident in rainy weather. A spokesperson for the Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting the president, explained that there was "no protective interest" in the incident. "The President's motorcade departed without incident."
A White House representative said the president and his wife Jill Biden were fine. They were driven back to their home in Wilmington. The Bidens have lived in Wilmington in the east coast state of Delaware for decades. The 81-year-old Biden plans to run for a second term in the presidential election next November.
