- Cancelled Swift shows in Vienna: danger at Adele in Munich?
Following the thwarted terror attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna, Munich police see no increased threat to upcoming Adele shows. "Of course, this is factored into our risk assessment. We're constantly reviewing the situation, and if anything concrete arises, we'll certainly respond," a Munich police spokesman said. However, there's no concrete threat at present.
"We're already deploying sufficient police forces," the spokesman added. "Due to the global political situation, we've had an increased abstract threat level for major events and gatherings for some time."
In Munich, British pop star Adele will give a total of ten concerts in August at a pop-up stadium designed specifically for her, with 73,000 seats. The next shows are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday (August 9/10).
In Vienna, a 19-year-old Islamist claimed he wanted to cause a bloodbath around a Taylor Swift concert. The IS sympathizer reportedly confessed fully after his arrest. A 17-year-old was also detained.
The duo's plan was to kill a large number of people with explosives and knives on either Thursday or Friday. After their arrest, the promoter cancelled the three Swift concerts in Vienna, scheduled for August 8-10, as a precautionary measure.
The Munich police stated that the risk assessment for Adele's concerts considers the situation following the thwarted terror attack, and they're prepared to respond if necessary. In view of the global political situation, The Commission has maintained an increased threat level for major events in Munich.
