Cadillacs Cabrio Sollei drives with electricity - and attracts birds
How Rolls-Royce or Bentley also wants Cadillac to offer exclusive luxury cars to affluent customers in the future. The concept Sollei shows how this could look. On board: a sustainable material from mushroom roots and bird whistles.
General Motors brand Cadillac presented the Sollei, a four-seat cabriolet with electric powertrain, to emphasize its potential in vehicle personalization for wealthy customers. However, a series production of this open-top electric car is not planned.
The name Sollei is composed of the words for sun (in Spanish Sol) and leisure (in English Leisure). The long-hooded two-seater of the electric limousine Celestiq, which has been in production since the beginning of the year in a small series of 100 to 150 units and sells for around converted 312,000 Euro, visually resembles the Sollei.
Reminder of the legendary Cadillac era of luxurious Cabrios
With the roofless Sollei, the US automaker wants to remind customers of the legendary Cadillac era of luxurious Cabrios. Therefore, the car was painted in the hand-painted 1950s color "Manila Creme," which was used for Cadillacs in 1957 and 1958. This color tone also dominates the interior, which was crafted with open-pore wood, intarsia, and nappa leather.
Behind the back seats, the Sollei offers a cooler compartment under a glass hood, filled with crystal glasses. In addition, there are sustainable materials like charging mats and wallets made from a material derived from mushroom roots. On board are also bird whistles, intended to attract birds. In this way, the Cadillac Sollei aims to provide the user with an experience back to nature.
The dashboard offers a large screen from door to door, measuring 55 inches in diagonal. Door handles are nowhere to be found - instead, there are buttons to open.
Cadillac is still silent about the Sollei's powertrain. It is likely to be the same system as the Celestiq, with a 450 kW/600 PS all-wheel drive and a range of 480 kilometers.
The Sollei, as a testament to Cadillac's past glory in electromobility and convertible automobiles, showcases its potential for sustainable luxury. Future Cadillac-Models may also embrace electromobility, offering exclusive experiences to affluent customers, much like the Sollei with its bird whistles and eco-friendly materials.
